25 Sep - Chester Passes Away

CHESTER PASSES AWAY @ 1:17pm

Chester has been breathing heavily the past few days, and this morning we decided to quickly bring Chester to AWC for an urgent consult with Dr Ly.

We fetched Grandma at 08:45am over to our home to help us bring Chester to AWC.

We called AWC at 09:23am and spoke to Rachael (AWC staff) that we needed to bring Chester in to see Dr Ly asap.  Rachael advised us to come asap as Dr Ly will come in around 10:30am.   As Chester could not walk, Rachael advised that AWC did not have a wagon to transport Chester from the drop off point or carp park to AWC.  No matter, we will carry Chester up to AWC.

Upon arrival a AWC, Dr Ly was already in consult with another client with cancer.  The cancer had "eaten" off part of the nose.  We waited for a short few minutes, and Dr Ly ushered us into the consult room.  There, Dr Ly noticed that Chester was breathing heavily, and rapid panting.  Dr Ly said Chester's heartbeat was very fast, and at this rate, Chester would depart in 24 - 48 hours. Dr Ly said that Chester would be much happier to spend his last moments in an environment that Chester was comfortable in (ie at home).

We pleaded with Dr Ly, we will try anything.  Dr Ly said he will get a vet nurse to prep Chester, then insert an IV at the side of Chester's neck, and nutrients can be fed through this IV.  This could give us a few more days at the most.  And Dr Ly will have a Duragesic (Fentanyl opioid) patch which will kick in around 24 hours time. At the same time, Chester will be given a constant supply of pure oxygen at the clinic.

During this time, Chester looked up at greeted everyone who entered the consult room.  This was Chester's way to greet the familiar faces which had accompanied us on this journey since February 2020.

At 12:45pm, Sharon (Ode's mummy) came to see Chester, and give emotional support.

At around 1:16pm, Chester's tail became erect and stood perpendicular to his prone body. Mummy through Chester was about to poop on the table, and proceeded to wipe him.  After 3 quivers of his tail, his abdomen quivered and mummy said loudly "He's not breathing.  Help".  Daddy ran out and told the staff "Chester is not breathing".   The staff shouted "DR LY, CODE BLUE".   We all ran into the consult room.  Dr Ly listened to Chester's chest, and pulled mummy and I towards Chester, and said "Hug him".   This was 1:17pm.

We knew it was all over for our beloved puppy, Chester.

At 2:15pm, Pastor Lorna Khoo dropped by at AWC to say goodbye to Chester, and say a small prayer for Chester at the same time.

(Ps Lorna and 2 friends saw Chester at the Pet Station at Maju Avenue in 2006, and alerted us that there was a cute Corgi for sale. We gave Chester a "Forever Home" on Sun 3 Sep 2006).
