THE SPLEEN REMOVAL - AVA REPORT
--------------------------------------------------
The Histopathalogical Report on Chester's spleen was sent to us and Dr Ly (ARC). We made an appointment with Dr Ly for a review of the report which states:
Splenic mass: Nodular hyperplasia, multinodular with
focalised teleangectasia.
Comment:
From the sections examined there is no overt evidence of a neoplastic process or necrosis or inflammation. There is evidence of moderate to marked parenchymal disorganization, congestion, and a focalized area of cavernous-like vascular spaces and altered venous blood flow with irregular variably sized nodules of hyperplastic lymphocytes. Nodular hyperplasia of the spleen is generally associated with aging process in older dogs. If large enough, then these nodules can become clinically significant due to compressive efforts on surrounding parenchyma. Clinical surveillance is warranted.

POST SURGERY
The spleen removal was successfully done by Dr Ly on 29 Jun 2015. The suture was done very carefully, that years after it healed, the scar was not clearly seen.
Originally, it was supposed to be a partial spleen removal with the growth. But during the surgery, Dr Ly saw the size of the growth, and thought it would be safer to remove the entire spleen, to save a second surgery (if necessary).
It started innocently as Chester had 2 or 3 days of diarrhoea. This was a sign that a vet consult was necessary. So we made an appointment to have Chester a thorough once-over by Dr Ly. During the consult, Dr Ly asked if Chester has had an annual check up as Chester was already 9 years old. We thought about it, and decided to have Chester get an ultrasound scan done at ARC. Dr Floriane Thierry was available, so we had the scan done immediately after Dr Ly's consult.
